From the Shieldwall WAB suppplement. This list is unusual for the large numbers of light infantry
A variant of the Caledonian lists. This list allows the use of pike for the close combat infantry, this gives them the advantage of fighting first in all circumstances but like the traditional thrusting spear means that they only fight in one rank when they charge. But you need to charge to make use of the warband ability. So this gives you units that should charge into combat to overwhelm weaker enemy units but stand to receive charges from stronger enemies (like Roman legionaries). The unit of thanes ( Toisech) is really scary with WS 4 and strength 4 and the points cost reflects this, at 555 points, this single unit is quarter of the army points.
The weakness of the army is its incredibly low morale, the skirmishers have a leadership of 5 and there's no way to improve that, formed units can have a Mormaer attached which gives a slightly higher chance of passing any leadership checks. However don't count on passing any leadership checks you might have to take. The other weakness is that all the units in the army need to test each turn to see if they go charging into the nearest enemy, so on every turn you can expect one unit to do something other than what you wanted them to do.
Tips: the big advantage is your Mormaer's, use them to improve morale and beef up attacks. When charged they can use their axes to give them strength 6 (minus 3 on armour save), although when charging I would favour using hand weapons and striking first, against everything except heavily armoured opponents. |

4x Mormaer
Pictish Chieftains, with no actual army general. There is no king in a Pict army
2-handed axes and javelins, light armour and shield
Warband. 79 points each
Army Standard Bearer, another Mormaer but this time carrying the army standard.
Javelin, light armour
Warband. 92 points
Sagart, a priest causing Hatred to the unit he is with. This priest is rather tougher and better armoured than similar priests in other armies. So he stands a better chance of living for longer. Also since pike armed Picts strikes first in combat, there is a good chance that the re-rolls in the first round of combat will be used.
Hand weapon, light armour and shield.
Warband 85 points |

36 Toisech. The thanes, noblemen better armed and of higher fighting skill than the common soldiers. However since there is no king in a Pict army, they do not gain the benefit of the Werod special rule. I have equipped these troops with javelins as well to give them missile capability. This might force the enemy to charge them, thus using the pikes to greatest advantage.
